Announcement:
My mother has a bar built into her house. It's really done up nicely and looks like a miniatureized version of the Chimes or sometheing.
I want to invite all TC folks and wives and babies to a party there next Thursday. This will ostensibly be to enjoy the UT/ASU game in the bar, but will really just be an occasion to get drunk and catch up with each other in an environment where our wives and babies can hang out together. My mother is raising my brother's five year old daughter and is very excited and prepared to host babies....plenty of privacy, places for naps etc.
What do you guys think? There is always a keg there and that night will either be Abita XXXmas ale or amber. She has a pretty good collection of hard stuff, but BYOHS would probably be appreciated so we don't hammer her stock.
I'd really like to see you guys especially together.
Let me know!!!

I've often thought that Tre'Mendous Washington would be a great name for a football player. Other names on my team of "inner city" all-stars:
Roderick Fontaine - Linebacker
Viceroy Brown
Constantine Farnsworth
K'Patrick Youngblood
LaPrince Williams
Rodney-Jermaine Price
Hadrian Black
Sedrik Spain
and Octavius Parker.
Please add some more and I will critique them.

I'm a Tre' Mendus baddass for getting into a drunken fight with a 230 lb. Canadian officer when I was drunk in Norfolk and knocking him to the ground with a single punch to the jaw.
Enhancing my claim to badassery is the fact that he bought me a beer within an hour of this decisive action.
There you go Truck...feel free to point out my spelling errors you arrogant bastard.

FYI, my 7 upsets for the straight up TD Bowl Pick 'Em are: Nevada, Arizona State, Miss. St., Indiana, Auburn, Arkansas, and Kansas. Wish me luck.
And screw that guy who is so far ahead of everyone else on NFL Pick 'Em. I'm all the way up to 12th place, but I'm still way behind that guy with only 2 rounds to go.
Oh, and I hope the Patriots lose. That is all.

OSU
But how to measure OSU's defense when the highest ranked Offense they faced was MSU, 24th and their opponent's average scoring offense rank was 54/119.
By comparison, KY and Arky who drilled us in points are ranked 15 and 9 respectively. Throw in Florida at #4, and we played 3 teams well above the best offensive team OSU played all year.
So, due to OSU's relatively weak schedule, they are an 11-1 #1 ranked team with the #1 ranked Defense that has really never been tested.
The ONLY thing that scares me about the game is how CRAZY the Tigers play sometimes.
Another interesting point:
OSU has done what good teams do: put the other team out of the game early. While LSU's play could be called sloppy and has resulted in the number of cardiovascular procedures performed in louisiana to skyrocket. However, I submit that because of OSU's "good playing" and LSU's "sloppy playing", LSU is much more prepared for a 4th quarter, 2:00 remaining shootout while OSU could easily fall apart if put in that foreign circumstance...
TD
I think TD, especially the OT board, is the most cohesive internet social unit I've ever seen that wasn't set up for a specific group or purpose (like Hollifield's butterfly-catching forum). You even see now jargon and phrases unique solely to that board.
2036
Based on your observation in P. 6 below, around 2030 I would begin investing heavily in print and video porn as people look back to this medium for their kicks in order to avoid their private business getting out.

Nothing to Win, Everything to Lose
As for the championship game against Ohio State, I'm probably more worried about this game than I've ever been worried about an LSU game before, except maybe with the game against Tennessee in Knoxville last year. Should LSU win? Yes. But it's almost like LSU has nothing to win and everything to lose. It's a no-win situation almost. The Buckeyes will practice harder for this game than any other game in their lives after what happened against Florida last year, and it's not like they're all that bad. I'll make a comparison later, but I think it goes without saying at this point that their defense is better than ours. And if you have the better defense, then anything can happen. If Brandon Cox can score 24 points, and fucking John Parker Wilson can somehow score 34 on only 256 yards of total offense, then why not Todd Boeckman?
Of course, technically, I realize that LSU has another crystal football to win, which would be nice since no college has more than one of them. But it's distressing that everybody seems to be giving the Tigers the title already, especially those reporters from MSNBC who are mysteriously on LSU's jock all of a sudden. If LSU wins, which is probably about 2/3 likely, everybody will just yawn and say, "so what," or "why didn't you beat the Buckeyes as bad as Florida did last year?" If LSU loses, which is probably about 1/3 likely, an unprecedented meltdown of epic proportions will occur, and it will be devastating to the future direction of the whole Tiger atheltics program. Holy crap, I hope LSU wins. And I especially hope Flynn has the game of his life. He sure as hell deserves it.

The OT is indeed filled with moral degenerates, but I suppose that every board on TD is pathetic in its own, unique way. As for Internet IDs, it's definitely a serious social problem that is yet to explode on the scene--a ticking time bomb, if you will. Psuedonyms are useful, but you've always got to be wondering to yourself: How much of my stuff is trackable by a computer nerd expert?
Can you imagine what the race for President in 2036 is going to be like? Every candidate is going to be faced with all the ill-advised emails, Facebook pictures, message board aliases, illegal downloads, porn possessions, etc., that they ever made. It's like everybody's entire lives will be on permanent record some day soon. Biometric passports, national ID cards, eavesdropping technology, etc., it's all pretty scary, isn't it?

Damn, the corner is so random. Not much activity for weeks than BAM, pages all at once...
TD
I'm sure nobody would want their Id outed. Plus, I've noticed other posters with names and posting habits similar to mine, so that could cause confusion as well. There's always funny crap going on in the OT section. Some "dude" from Lafayette had been posting for a while and was using his own pic of him out at the club as his avatar complete with spiked hair, buffed-up, etc. The masses had begun taking shots already over the obvious but then turned on him over some story involving a stripper at the gold club that turned out to be another poster's friend and yet another poster who used to date him who advised that they used to call him "mighty mouse" for sexual reasons. The guy has not been seen since his meltdown. Pretty stupid stuff to anyone with a life, but if you're at home with a baby it's amusing.
tOSU
Those people are Strange. Reading their boards, they really have a confidence problem (I thought TD posters were crazy). Every discussion is either a fearful "can we win?" or "ESPN hates us" to irrelevant reasons why OSU will win based on the respective 40 times of each and every player on the teams combined.
In general (too lazy for details), OSU hasn't faced an offense even close to LSU's, as measured by rankings. LSU has faced many offenses equal to or better than the Bucks. Defensively, the bucks haven't really faced a top defense either and, while OSU's defense is #1, LSU has faced a lot of highly ranked Ds. Of course, most of you guys are statnerds, so you know this better than me. I'm just trying to look smart.
More importantly, and something you guys DIDN'T know, is that LSU will win because, when we win the NC, our coach won't look like the overjoyed black kid at his birthday party:

Another funny thing going on is fans from SOMEWHERE are spamming the OSU board about not going to NOLA because it is dangerous and they will get attacked by LSU fans. I don't know if it's LSU fans trying to dissuade them from coming or Okie fans trying to have fun. Regardless, many OSU fans are actually discussing not going because of this or even staying in Mississippi and driving there and back.
Rock the Casbah
Ahmadinejad was feeling warm and fuzzy over the latest report on Iran's standdown of its nuclear weapons programs so, for fun, he "closed down 24 Internet cafes and other coffee shops in as many hours, detaining 23 people, as part of a broad crackdown on immoral behavior in the Islamic state" and "barber shops offering men Western hair styles"

And yes, it would be extremely satisfying to be able to walk into a bar and present an ID with my baby picture in it. If it were at Rocky's/Skeeter's, I'd just throw it at them. Low class swine.
Also, "Spectre" would be the most bad-ass name for a car ever invented. Proper nouns are different. Some shit just works better for fast cars or for fancy mustard than it does with ordinary American discourse.

"is a great way to spen a rainy day"
Or the entire second grade. Well, no, I guess some of that time was spent meditating on how I would stop Russians, Decepticons, Cobra, or all the black kids at the school in general.
And Lou Diamond tops Banderas any day. He was in "Stand in Deliver" and "Young Guns I & II," not to mention playing Ritchie Valens in "La Bamba" and Johnny "Night Train" Monfriez in "Courage under Fire." That's a pretty hard resume to top.

And I love zombie movies lately. Well, I love the premise behind them. The movies are generally pretty bad with stars like Eric Roberts or Lou Diamond Phillips (a poor man's Antonio Banderas). The idea of preparing for a zombie infestation by fortifying some area in the backwoods, of learning to shoot and carrying guns everywhere you go, and the idea of sticking together with a small group of survivors who are loyal friends appeals directly to good wholesome American ideals. In the same way that movies like Red Dawn used to. Instead of banding together to fight off the Ruskies, it is the living dead.
Sitting around and thinking of what you would do in a zombie infestation, or better yet, brainstorming with others, is a great way to spen a rainy day. Especially fun is discussing what type of weapon you would carry, how you would get food and water etc. I love it.

you must mean the spelling. Yes it is similar to Le Sabre, but I jest. I enjoy using these horrible spellings to raise your ire. I'll be glad to return to the land where Big Red is the national gum. It will be Stella's first visit to the U.S.A. She's travelling on a Canadian Passport. It's pretty funny with a picture of a six week-old baby. They make her renew it every two years until she is twelve or something. That's too bad. It would be great fun to insist on being served in a bar as a 21 year old with that as your photo I.D.
And for those who like to mix desolate, hopeless, whining lyrics from Radiohead's Thom Yorke with a ridiculously beautiful Dutch model, there's always this.
As one poster put it on songmeanings.net...
The song is meant to be the darkest thing writeable. Thom Yorke said it was about "fighting with the devil and losing every time." He has trouble playing it at concerts, because it's so draining to look into the eyes of a cheering audience when singing of total despair.
Whatever. I'm one of those cheering idiots. The song tries to be about death and dread and evil, but just starts coming through as a commentary on dead end life instead. I'm not sure if what Radiohead is trying to pull off is even possible with words, and I'm inclined to believe that if they can't do it no one can.
It's still an incredible song, still my favorite Radiohead song. Maybe it's the enigma of such a great song talking about such an aweful thing that makes me just unable to feel the meaning of it.
Pussy.

Highbrow Sunday
For Darren or any other nerds out there who want to learn about the motivations for monetary policy, there's a good thread on that here, which starts out describing why we went off the gold standard, and then discusses whether or not Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke has gone too far in pumping liquidity into the U.S. economy.
For a hilarious one-liner that shows why you should never try to preempt "snide remarks," this thread is worth a laugh.
But on a far more important topic, and one that is appropriate for a Sunday, check out this list of the Top 20 sideboob shots on the Internet. Ah, screw it, you might as well just hit the motherlode and go straight to sideboob.org. It doesn't get much more highbrow than that, and I'm quite sure that Peter Griffin would agree with me.

Well, I just assumed that you would quickly realize you were technically incorrect in saying that you would arrive Monday of next week, but I guess my assumption was misplaced. Maybe that's just the way they keep track of weeks up in Nova Scotia where people do weird things like skiing without a boat in front of them. Fucking Canadians.
By the way, some random poster (I have no idea who he could possibly be in real life) had a funny little yellow dude that I like. Enjoy...

I used to think these things were kind of gay, but I like a lot of them now. Like from this website, where you can find these:

Yeah, I guess wigger would be the wrong term. It's not really what I meant. Kind of like how so many people consider Bill Clinton "black" even though he doesn't listen to rap or wear gold chains. Anyway, I'm getting tired of talking about a sports nerd like SFP who understands the business, but completely misses the whole point of the game. He's nothing but a sycophant who likes sports for all the wrong reasons.
All of this material will be deleted in a couple of days. I feel dirty for even having brought it up.

A Funny Email from SlowFlowPro to Mike Scarborough
i saw you banned me for no reason today after somebody told me that you were talking shit
listen bud, try to get something right for the first time in your life. i'm not a troll. i posted the truth. mackey is a dumb, asshole who isn't a prospect LSU should sign. if you don't agree with it, then be a man and reply to it in the thread. don't act like that nerd we all remember in school would would go run to teacher and then talk shit as the other kid was escorted away.
and i'm not a guy who is mad because i was banned before. i've had that account for something like 2 years and have gotten banned twice for bullshit, but i went a long time in between without any activity. i don't avoid that board because i'm mad you banned me, i avoid that board because you foster an attitude that only a nazi could love. if you don't drink the scarborough and regular poster kool aid, you are banned. i mean shit pkit is an all-start poster on your board and he's literally worthless as a poster. if you need a microcosm of the problems of your board, he's a perfect example.
mike if you wanna act like the badass you never got to as younger man and suspend me from your lil board, whatever. but don't be a little girl and then talk shit to your minions to try and act cool. that's for 6th grade girls who got their tits in after everyone else. if you're going to talk shit to me, be a man and let's air it out on your board. i'll put it another way for you to understand...a movie reference. calling me out on the board is acting like billy zane in titanic, when he slips onto the life boat. make sense now?

"E" is an odd cat. I used to see him at some of the TAF parties when I worked for EATEL.
I'll never have the requisite absence of pride and self-respect to do it the way he did.
I still remember the commercial where he's sitting at his desk talking and a car comes smashing into the wall in slow motion. Glass is flying by E as he slow-motions the NOOOOoooooooo!!!. Then a little black lady gets out and says something funny.
Nols you are such a racist.

Okay, Nols. That's random. Thanks for sharing.
Anyway, here's a little snippet from a Shreveport Times article that I thought some of you might like:
"LSU players peeled off in their vehicles from the football operations facility with music blaring after the [BCS selection] show. Maybe they were going to study for next week's exams. Maybe they weren't. Other players danced and chanted, 'We going to the 'ship! We going to the 'ship!'"

First half -
Complete domination by LSU. Johnson and Randolph were swatting shots all over the place (I think the team had 8 at the half). At one point we had 7 blocks to their 8 field goals made.
Our guards were also dominating their guards, with their shooting line at about 4 for 21 from the field. They also couldn't hit shit from the line, while we were. Which is surprising, because they led the nation last year in foul shooting while we were shit last year in foul shooting. However, with Thornton, Randolph, Spencer and more PT for Johnson this year our team shooting percentages should go up.
2nd Half-
We still dominated for about 13 more minutes. Up 21 with around 7 minutes to go. At this point Villanova gets its head out of its ass and starts muscling our toothpicks down low.
Randolph gets his 4th foul with 4 1/2 minutes remaining in the game, LSU up by 15. My first thought "Take that f'er out, Brady. We may need him the last 2 minutes in case of a comeback. If we don't need him, great, put him back in anyway." At that moment, there was absolutely no reason for him to be on the floor.
Randolph fouls out 30 seconds later with a 12-13 point lead.
The wheels fall off. Their guards get hot. They put full court pressure and our guards (all of them) become complete pussies. There is a complete reversal in the foul shooting for both teams. I could have turned the game off at this point and told you exactly what was going to happen.
Temple and Martin showed absolutely no veteran leadership in being able to stabilize the team. We reeaally needed Taz at that point.
I believe this meltdown was even worse than the Kentucky debacle. I mean that was a 31-point lead with 20 minutes remaining. This was a 21-point lead with 7 minutes remaining.
However, the team did show it's potential in the first 33 minutes. We have talent, height, and athleticism. We lack girth, poise, and consistency (esp. shooting). Spencer, by the way, is the best point guard we've had in a long time (I don't count Lil' Daryl Mitchell as a point). He's a good ball-handler, has nice vision, hits open 3's, makes free throws, and has good poise. He did help out last night in the debacle with some turnovers and missed free throws, but I think he'll continue to improve and meltdowns will become increasingly less likely to occur.

Geaux SEC!!!
Great news, Berry. The bastards at LSU ITS, SNCC, OTC, Alumni Association, LSU Foundation, Microsoft, ... whomever, decided to take away my PAWS Account (making me sign up for an "alumni" email address instead--which to the best of my knowledge--just looks like a way to kick me out of the LSU system and make me sign up to do my email through Microsoft) so I might have some new email addresses next week. We'll see.

Here's to Phillip Fulmer ... and TRADITION!!!
(And a "Fiddler on the Roof" YouTube clip.)
You know, Phillip Fulmer has taken a lot of shit in his time. People criticized him for taking over for 1956 Heisman runner up at UTK, Johnny Majors after a heart attack during the 1992 season, but Fulmer has held on and continued the proud tradition of Volunteer football.
Really, the biggest knock against the guy, besides his propensity to blow unimportant bowl games from time to time, is that there's nothing special about him. "He's got all the talent," people say, "and he's dirty." QB after QB, RB after RB, WR after WR, D-lineman after D-lineman, the Vols always seemed to be stacked, and yet Fulmer, to most people, is most famous for being the butt of Spurrier's joke about not being able to spell Citrus without the "UT."
But, I've got to hand it to the guy, he knows how to coach an offensive line, and his team far exceeded expectations this year after how bad the Vol defense performed against Cal and Florida.
Folks, it can't be easy taking over the 9th winningest CFB program in history, and following a legend who was awarded SEC titles in 1989 and 1990, and just narrowly missed a NC in 1989. So what helps Fulmer keep it together during the hard times? When people accuse him of stabbing Majors in the back and he took over a program in mid-season that had just lost 3 straight games? When people accuse him of ratting out Alabama's football program? When people accuse him of being a dufus who was outperformed in the 90's by Spurrier? When Tennessee goes 5-6 in 2005, only the second losing season (the other was 1988) for the Vols since 1980? When Tennessee's 22-year winning streak is snapped at home against Vanderbilt in 2005? When his back is to the wall, and it looks certain that Kentucky will beat him at Lexington, breaking the longest series losing streak in major CFB at 26 years?
I'll tell you what ... TRADITION!!!

In addition, Majors had lost 7 straight games to Alabama. Fulmer went 7-1-1 against from 1993 to 2004, and is now 10-4-1 against Bama overall as a head coach. In his tenure, Tennessee has been 5th in the country in wins and winning percentage, and now stands at 8th overall since 1869, and is currently best in the nation in wins since 1926 at 640-229-33 (.7278).

I flew up to Richmond to watch the game with the Real Deal. I figured if me and him drank a fifth of crown together, it would be good karma. I didn't realize it would be that good. Saturday was just overall a great day of football and drinking. He's got a cute kid, but he sure yells a lot.
Yeah, I just figured instead of the $5, ya'll could buy me a drink next time I see you...maybe down in new orleans around January 7th?

$1000 Tickets?
TicketReserve.com forward reservations for LSU tickets are currently at a little bit over $500 per ticket, making for a little less than $800 per ticket once you add in the purchase at face value.
Anybody think it's a good idea to buy some? How much do you suppose shitty seats will be going for before the game?

LSU in for Sure!!!
The coaches poll (USA Today Poll) just came out, and LSU is #2 by a wide margin over #5 Virginia Tech--we're ahead of them by 2.93 rank positions, or .1173 BCS Points.
Thus, for the USA Today third of the BCS formula, we've got...
2. LSU, 1418, .9453 BCS Points
5. VT, 1242, .8280 BCS Points
People who know the computer models are already predicting (1) either LSU and VT will be tied in the computers, or (2) ...
1. VT, 1.75 average, .9700 BCS Points
2. LSU, 2.25 average, .9500 BCS Points
Which means...
LSU's final BCS average will be (.9453 + .9500 + X) / 3, and
VT's final BCS average will be (.8280 + .9700 + Y) / 3.
Which means as long as VT doesn't beat LSU by more than .0973 BCS Points in the Harris Interactive Poll, LSU is in.
LSU was already leading VT by 51 votes in the 114-voter Harris Poll, so I don't think that will be a problem, considering that VT used to be above LSU in the USA Today Poll.
There's just no way VT will beat LSU by 278 votes (or 2.43 ranks) in the Harris Poll. Not ... gonna ... happen.
Now I'm ready to whip some Buckeye ass!
